Jo Avila – Capturing A Glimpse of Light

His famous pose

Whether you are a professional, a hobbyist or somewhere in between, you've always wanted to capture that perfect moment but most of the time missed it! Or perhaps you took a group shot and  ended up in having a very dark photo! Found learning material on the internet and never really understood it? Everybody has experienced this more than once whatever skill level you have but why not lessen the chances of this happening? This is where Mr. Jo Avila steps in!

Mr. Jo Avila is a renowned photography instructor and a printing guru, with more than 16 years of experience, he provides workshops that is flexible enough from newbies to experienced shooters and knowledge that expands from one camera brand to another, a really unique feat! (And fun to watch when he navigates different cameras during a workshop)!  To add to his credentials, he is one of Canon Crusaders of Light ImageNation Ambassadors and Canon Pixma Brand Ambassador, both of which are elite groups which represents the Canon brand in the Philippines!

What to expect?

His workshops are Basic Photography, Basic Color Management & Printing and Food Photography, conducting webinars with other photographer which serves as a medium for “advanced/specialized photography” training.  Most have multiple schedules, ranging from an weekend only schedule, weekday schedule and a 2 day weekend schedule (you will need to check out his facebook page to see which course and time slots are available!).

As I first walked into his studio, I didn't recognize him (or perhaps wasn't really sure it was him). As he introduced himself with a handshake, you automatically feel that he knows and practices whatever he will be talking about. Aside from his serious teaching lessons, he brings in a luggage of jokes and funny personal experiences with fellow photographers (and yes, I will never forget his story with Mr. Jay J. – waterproof camera).

My awesome classmates with Jo Avila ^__^
Even more, I was part of a class that had really awesome individuals in their own unique ways! Everyone shared their personal experiences; our batch has the 11 hour legend and super mom to name a few! This made the experience more fun!

What we suggest?
  • Whatever level of experience you may have always be open different ideas from your batch mates and Jo.
  • The more bludgeoning your pictures get from Jo, the more he loves you! :)
  • Spell RAW
  • Make sure to get sufficient sleep the day before classes. I swear, there are some lessons that you need freshly charged brain to absorb all the information. Don’t worry, Jo knows when to give break when his students nose bleeds!

So San Tayo? Join one of his workshops and learn the tips and tricks from the master himself! Don’t worry, you won’t be the worst photographer in the world…unless you took a picture of a cow eating grass!
