Taal, Batangas : A Heritage Town

When we say Taal, the first thing that comes to mind would most probably be Taal Volcano, Taal Lake or Tagaytay. Well, have you heard about Taal, Batangas? Taal is actually a heritage town tucked an hour away from Tagaytay (It is a 130KM travel from Manila). If you need a getaway from the metro and see Philippine history, Taal is a sure hit for you! Definitely a More fun in the Philippines type of adventure!

What is in store when you visit Taal? Honestly, there is a lot of places to visit (see map here ), however during our trip, we only had time to visit a few locations (don't get me wrong, we went to Taal a bit too late in the day!). We were able to make new friends and meet new people, each of them having their own unique stories about Taal.

Galleria Taal, also known as the Camera Museum is a one of a kind museum! It houses hundreds of cameras from a century ago! From Leica 0 to a 24K Nikon Camera! If you are able to catch the owner (Mr. Manny Inumerable), then you are in for a treat of free history lessons of both the cameras and the rich history of Taal! Are the cameras operable? 99% of the cameras are indeed in working condition!

Inside the Casaysay Church

Once you visit the Casaysay Church, you will be able to see three landmarks. The Casaysay Church, the San Lorenzo Ruiz Steps and the Well of Sta Lucia. Recently, the Casaysay church has been provided the special privilege of a Roman Basilica, meaning devotees who visit and pray at the shrine are now able to receive plenary indulgence (lifted from taal.ph).

The Well of Sta Lucia was where the original image of the Lady of Casaysay was mysteriously found in 1611 after it disappeared from the church (lifted from taal.ph). Granting miraculous healing powers, we were able to attest to that miraculous healing power!

Finally, St. Martin de Tours Basilica, which is the largest Catholic Church in Asia! Wtih a silver and gold altar, the old bell sitting in from of the church and a tower which you can climb and get a top view of portions of Taal, there is definitely a majestic aura about the church
