MYOH : MAKE YOUR OWN HAVAIANAS 2012

I have never owned a pair of Havaianas however for Mothers day, I decided to attend this event for (1) buy a Mothers day gift (2) Experience customizing your kicks!

Already on its 6th year, Havaianas presents their Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH). MYOH gives its customers opportunity to mix and match different design of soles and straps! Also, pins are available for added uniqueness to your Havaianas!

Aside from the 6th year milestone, Havaianas is celebrating something bigger! 50th year anniversary!!

What to expect

The whole process can take around 2 hours (the waiting game was around an hour and a half and the actual assembly of the slippers is finished in 30 minutes or less...based on our experience, coming in at 11:00AM on May 10).  Despite the hours, it was worth the experience, especially if you have friends around! We could have sworn that we lost a few pounds while waiting (which we gained back afterwards), but don't think that Havaianas did not take care of the place! The event area was prepared and ventilated, just so happen that the sun was beating down really hard! The place is wifi powered, with 8 access points, all decent speeds! So while waiting...tweet, instagram (or refresh your work email if you're like me) and spread the MYOH event!

From what we have heard, Havaianacs (Havaianas Maniacs...thats what I would call them) were already lined up 4 hours before the actual event. Hands down to them!

As you come into the event, you are ushered to the holding area, where they give you the leaflet on what you can mix and match (and this becomes your order card as well). You can also go to the roulette to start mixing and matching different soles, straps and accessories. I decided to go with MYOH Estampas soles and Ice Gray straps with my Moms name on one strap and the word TANDZ on the other (short and sweet for Tanda ^_^)

On your way to the Assembly area of your slippers, you get to walk on the bridge with Havaianas rich and colorful history from 1962 onwards.

Once you arrive in the assembly area, you have another roulette to make final decisions on how to glam up your Havaianas. There are 3 "multiple havaianas" lanes (for 2 or more custom purchase) and 1 "single havaianas" lane (for single purchases). A foot size mat is also available

Here we go!

It was my turn and Karol was my friendly Havainassembler (Havaianas Assembler...another made up name). She was pretty much quick and easily understood my order form (since the form did not include any form of writing). In a few minutes, there was my customized Haiavanas! In essence, there was 4 steps to the process, (1) Havainassembler grabs the needed stuff from their WALLS of supply. (2) Havainassembler confirms the materials he/she has (3) Connects strap to sole (4) Connects pins to strap. Steps 3 and 4 are pretty much interchangeable. Looking around the venue, my Havainassembler was pretty much efficient at what she was doing. Afterwards, you can go to the photo booth and have your pictures with your custom kicks (thanks to Gary and the other Havainassembler)

Additionally, if you purchase the happiness pins, Havaianas will donate 100PHP to Operation Smile Philippines who provides free reconstructive facial surgery to indigent Filipino children and young adults born with cleft lip and cleft palate deformit (to know more, you can visit http://www.facebook.com/operationsmilephils or http://www.operationsmile.org)

+1's!

What impressed me with this event was the awesome customer service from start to finish! I was able to overhear a "request" from one of the customers. A passing Havainassembler (didn't get his name) told the customer that he will check with customer service and he got back to the customer with the required information (thumbs up to getting back to the customer). Another (or many) of the Havainassembler are also very sensitive with the pictures. If they see a couple/group trying to get their own pictures, they would approach that couple/group and volunteer to take their picture!

Overall, it was a really great experience! Definitely will come back next year and buy myself a new customized pair (if this event does not fall on a mothers day)!

Price

Starting price is at 895PHP.
